January 2007
All the assistant language teachers were invited to a tea ceremony to be held at the local community centre. We arrived to see young and old women dressed beautifully in kimonos and were then asked to introduce ourselves. We then listened to a great singer and pianist before watching the tea ceremony. We were given a Japanese sweet first and then the green tea as the tea used in a tea ceremony is different and quite bitter. I really enjoyed the sweet and the green tea was really nice. We then got to try our hand at making some ourselves. We learnt how to whisk the tea (mine took forever! And didn’t quite turn out the same!) and about the rituals involved like turning the cup in a particular direction.
The equipment used -
Marie, Me, Jodi and Chelsea making the tea.
My tea!

I enjoyed making Japanese tea that day. That was tough work whisking that tea - my arm muscles were so sore afterwards!
