A Day Trip to Izushi!

3rd November

Today Yoko picked up Tina, Steve, Spencer (Steve’s friend) and I to take us out for a day trip! We drove for about 2 hours to reach Izushi. Izushi is a small but beautiful town that has a famous clock tower, remaining castle walls, temples and shrines, beautiful old houses and it is famous for the soba which is made there. We were lucky as there was a festival on this day so we not only saw all the sights but we also got to see the markets, a parade and a men’s traditional performance. It was a great day and thanks to Yoko we saw another new place in Japan!

Making mochi (sticky rice balls) - Tina had a go at this too and we got to try one - yum!

The men in the parade had this amazing hair which was part real and part wig!

The Clock Tower

The Izushi yaki shop where I bought 2 beautiful cups which are made from a special china like material which is only found in this area.

A basket making shop where there was a man weaving these baskets.
