Nara

29th October

Today I took a day off so I could spend some time with Dad and Lainey. Marie’s friends Tessa and Danny are also here so we all went to Nara together for the day. I have only been to Nara once before when I came to Japan last time so it was a good opportunity to visit again. We hired bikes as soon as we arrived in Nara as it made it a lot easier to get around, except for Dad, as he is so tall the bike just wasn’t the right height!

Our first stop was Kofuku-ji temple where there is a 3 storey and 5 storey pagoda.

Then we rode up a huge hill to then reach Kasuga Grand shrine which was really beautiful.

A deer - they roam around everywhere in Nara!

Dad, Lainey and Marie with their fortunes - Lainey was the only one to get a not so good one -you can tell by their faces!

Heart plaques - wishes for love!

We then went to Todai-ji temple which is the biggest wooden structure in the world and it holds one of the biggest Buddas! The Budda is about 20 metres high and is so amazing to see! From ground level it is really hard to gauge how big it really is but there is a hole the size of its nostril in one of the wooden support beams. If you can slide through it you will have a healthy and enlightened life – hopefully this happens to me even though I had to be pulled through by Dad!

More deer!

Me coming out of the "nostril"!!! I had to pose like this as every other person was!!

Nara is a really beautiful place and I really recommend visiting there – along with every other place in Japan!! ☺
